How sad. Coming from a small town, I understand all too well the insular nature of situations like this. The family's reasoning is coming from a good place as shown by the epilogue, but it can get very suffocating to be trapped for the sake of carrying on the close family tradition.

It's really amazing how well this can gut punch you in so relatively few pages when other series use hundreds and can't illicit anything. The worst part of the situation is that no one in the story is "in the right" and its their own stubbornness that drags them down.
