Honestly, it should be forbidden to ask for money if you don't meet a minimum level of scanlation quality. Especially if you are a "new face".

This stuff is illegal and as long as it's provided for free we cannot complain, but then you have groups and individuals who post illegible gunk and include links to send them money. As if their garbage is worth anything.

The minimum quality is not hard to meet: use the appropriate pronouns and keep text inside bubbles and boxes.

It would be better to also get decent grammar, but many ESL people (including myself) unintentionally make mistakes and as long as the sentence makes sense it can be overlooked.

It is not acceptable to ask for money for work that doesn't even meet those two simple criteria. If you yourself can't be bothered to spend some time to make it a little bit better, I will not spend my money on it.

And if you are someone new, who only recently started scanlating, then even more so you should not ask for money. I don't know you, you gave me a shit work, there is simply no way I'm going to give you a single cent and be grateful I don't bash your efforts to the ground.
If you're new, release your stuff, get some criticism to improve (or ignore it) and when people know you and find you trustworthy you can add your money making scheme to your credits page.

as someone who has never scanlated anything in my life, i agree. regarding ESL scanlators, i think some leeway is afforded, but sometimes i do see blatantly lazy work with 'ESL' as a plausible excuse. but for good faith ESL scanlators who still fumble a bit here and there, consult the chart for specifics:
non-native english speaker 1 uses MTL to translate manga 1, translated manga 1 has many grammatical errors

non-native english speaker 2 reads manga 1, then uses MTL + improper learned grammar to translate manga 2

non-native english speaker 3 reads manga 2...

It isn't an issue with grammar, it's the money part.
As long as there is no "donations" link they can be as bad as they want.
So true brother. Even I edit the whole thing using Samsung Editor one time... And there is an insane person using Powerpoint for the whole thing... Jesus. How insane it is that the powerpoint can do anything.

Though I think if you see some of the popular mangoes like Shuumatsu no Valkyrie, I'd understand why they need to take some dono, because damn... They did the whole thing it was tidious. Especially some mangoes that had some pages that are really banger.
