though if someone can afford it, i would absolutely recommend to buy this (just to support the author). Personally i have both the digital and printed version.Good manga, 9.5/10, rounded down.
The scope of worldbuilding in "Ascendance of a Bookworm" is what every fantasy manga should strive for.
It kinda fails in the details - for example, the german words used for things like spells and wands are pretty haphazard - but the scope of it is proper.
This is an alien world, so the plants and animals are alien. Customs are a bit alien, like
Refreshingly novel, and it feels like seeing a slightly alien society, like you get more out of reading this than some cliché fantasy setting.because magic exists, nobles that meet formally might bless each-other with real magic. Nobles are on top because they can use magic, and magic is required to keep monsters out of cities, so peasant rebellions are basically doomed to fail. Accordingly, nobles sort themselves after how much magic ability they have; this is only logical.
Note that this is only the first manga series of five or so. Several are in progress at once, with different artists. Some of the later ones update slowly or not at all, but the light novel series is finished, so it makes sense to read the manga to where progress stops, and then just jump into the books, by whatever means.
(Which is probably not buying, because there's like 35 books and it'd cost you a small fortune. I simply petitioned nearby libraries into getting the book series until one of them caved.)
i would say it´s less her competence that changes and more that the applicability of her knowledge and values more and more comes into conflict with this worlds standards. It´s actually the only isekai i can think of where the other world factor amounts to more than just food and/or board games outside the central theme (which is books in this case). The level of the MC's competence changes in absurd ways as this story progresses.
what exactly is unbelievable about that?the fact that they are like 6 years old is so mega unbelievable. why didnt the author just make them like 9?
Though this reply might be a tad late, could you explain the issue? This kinda starts off a bit annoying with the book obsession going a little far before its reined in by the author getting more serious with the plot. The side characters are very loveable and I found myself drawn to them more than the MC.
One of the major issues that happens in the manga isnt really explained properly I think. As it becomes a major facet of the later story I'd like it properly expanded on but I'd guess that'd happen in the web novel. Though I'm not expecting much excitement from the world building.
Overall an enjoyable manga with cute art and a solid story.
that´s what we call character growth. She still a lil whiney ass bitch but she is so much better than she was in the beginning
deus ex machina is something that comes out of nowhere. Her magic breaking out was long foreshadowed.Setting is great, but the MC is so lame. Makes the worst decisions ever.
How is this an isekai if she doesn't hold the simplest common sense from modern Japan? And what's up with that final chapter Deus Ex Machina?
3/10 IGN
which is absolutely understandable on account of this being a different world. Considering that, her depiction is way more realistic than most other isekai with brainless op protagonists.Aight, this mc makes me feel pain on the inside at times, but she's not terrible, just uninformed about the world around her.
considering the difference in life quality between modern day Japan and this pseudo medieval world in combination with the fact that she finds herself in the body of a 5 y/o (which impacts her mind) i do not fault her for acting spoiled.the mc is uhhhh act like a very spoiled person she's like some antagonist that everyone hated from another story
