Lutz certainly didn't hesitate to make Main run. But then again, if she can do it, she should do it, to get stronger.

So the reason nobles don't participate in the festival is because they shouldn't give the fruit magic.

Oh. Loving all the little details that get overshadowed our cut from the anime.

Thanks for the translations

@dustyoldqrow so far based on light novel there is no indication that he knows, of course that doesnt mean he doesnt know. And that subordinate from the ova may know considering his personality.

@cryum Nope
They dont participate because why would they? They have their own ceremonies and stuff. Throwing stuff at each other woukd be barbaric for them.

You will see their stuff in volume 3.

huh...that's both something very convenient to know for the future and rather troubling at the same time. if those fruits turn into seeds of the super growth trees when exposed to magic, then she can potentially make use of that to reliably mass produce paper...but it begs the question of what those things really are and how exactly they end up growing in the wild, as well as what side effects they might have on both the source of the magic that converts them (aka MC girl) and the world around if that's a magic effect rather than a natural one
I suppose best case mass producing paper actually heals her given her whole the sickness is caused by excessive magic in the first place setting...but it'd really take it out of the soil where they grow, those nutrients gotta come from somewhere

@InsaneInsomniac In Part 1, they say that toronbe plants completely decimate the land around them, sucking up pretty much all the nutrients and leaving the soil unfit for any other plant.

@FullDiver Just spread some manure on the ground, maybe cultivate nitrogen fixing plants for a summer, and it's as good as new.

I mean, no matter what crops you grow, if you harvest them, the land will grow nutrient poor, unless some muddy flood reinvigorates it every year automatically. That's why folks use fertilisers and/or practice crop rotation.

Main would naturally know all of this, being a modern person originally.

@Kaarme True, but you also have to take into consideration the fact that normal nutrient depletion is usually over the course of several years, slow enough that the ecosystem's natural processes can use manure and/or crop rotation to make up for it. Toronbe does it in all of 5 seconds, making the area suddenly and immediately inhospitable for even the parts of the ecosystem that drive those natural processes.
Kind of similar to that scene in The Martian when
the entrance to the Hab rips open and all the plants and bacteria immediately die.

Edit: added spoiler tags, for the people who haven't seen The Martian

Crop rotation is a regular thing to learn about in middle school or so, especially when learning about early civilizations
