Also I love that panel when Myne and Ferdinand sit down on the carpet, it's SO COOL

Nice to see this moment done some small justice. As much as I love the anime the animation itself left a lot to be desired.

I can't fathom why he'd toss those on the ground in a bag. All the chips and dings in the metal cups would freak me out. Store them in a segmented box or something if you want to toss them about.
He's rich. He doesn't care.

Wonder if the temple head is vastly underestimating how much mana she can shit out and is trying to tire her out as some form of punishment.

Or I’m overthinking it.
he'll try and take credit for her work i'd bet.

The attitude of the fatso.... Why does he remind me of the attitude of a certain cow-worshipping people with caste system in our real world in a certain country, huh? Especially when they treat the lowest of their castes? Can someone explain this to me?

My guess? He is planning to resell them under the counter. I would report to the city head the total number of chalices filled as by his (supposed) orders.

Explain what? Your reference to an old, very outdated, part of the world? Or do you want to refer the vast majority of the western world throughout history until recent times?

Or do you want an explanation on you throwing cultural racism into a discussion about a comic where religion is used to harass and control people? Which, by the way, is also the history of all religion.

Or do you want an explanation into your odd use of passive-aggressive language for something out of nowhere? If you want details on the failings of your parents to educate you on society, then you'll need to speak to them - we can't do that for you.

Of course as always we have villains who are evil for the sake of being evil, because sure, instead of nurturing and raising a healthy individual with the consumption to be a "magical battery" to charge up magical devices, he can just drain her entirely and kill a Gold Myne pun intended i got to say, i wonder if the Temple Head is stupid or quite smart for thinking on long term on how Myne can become a threat to his position, regardless he could've tried the peaceful way at first and try to "win" her to his side, be it through bribery with power, money, fame, knowledge or books. But i think that his Ego woudn't allow it in the end.

Well, from what we have seem from Schicoza incident, he was actually above average in Mana terms compared to most, and he barely covered a small field with grass before passing out, whoever Myne almost got the whole area, given more time and i bet she would've grown trees, bushes, and a whole landscape without even getting tired, the Chief Priest himself was quite impressed, to the extent that he had to contain his expression and ask her that it was enough.

Perhaps the info that the Temple Head was a supressed version or he understimated her Consumption.

Regardless, the intention is clear, seems like he wish to kill her via mana drainage or due to disobeying a direct order. The Chief Priest acting was quite a good one, making Myne Consumption seems weaker than it is, like Sun Tzu said:

Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak — Sun Tzu. The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting. If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.

Just to clarify something, religion is not used to control people in this comic
A lot of the religion is pretty much dead, if not for the gods being real and needed for noble life, otherwise it would be totally dead. A lot of the plot is actually Myne reviving the religion that has been long forgotten. Not cause she is that religious but simply due to circumstances and necessity

As is, Myne has no threat to his position.
he is the uncle of the archduke

He like the majority of his family draws lines, if you are on line A they will treat you very well, line B they are extremely vicious. This is why you saw his atitude switch so much once he realized Mynes status. That said, Fernand saying he will protect her and schikoza (who was a priest before thus friends with him) being killed would make him hate Myne a lot more

Schicozas mana wasnt that big, maybe for a priest he was on upper end(or maybe not) since he was able to leave but all those thrown into the temple have poor mana. But his status was med noble, unlike lay nobles who may end up in the temple due to lack of money, unless there is some political reason, most med nobles with low mana would just be made into servents. Judging they didnt, he may have had less mana than most laynobles. So we cant say how he really ranks

But for sure, the Bishop is not trying to drain myne to death. Of course he isnt the kind of person who would be grateful for things he gets from people he doesnt like. Aka, if Myne fills 10 challaces with ease, he will give her 20 next time until he finds her limit and have her fill up that limit.

Whatever may be the reason for the Head Priest to tell Myne to fill the chalices, one thing is clear, an order from his position alone would've been enough, but he purposely used the City Lord's authority back him up, as in a threat of execution, that makes me question if he truly just wish the chalices filled to see how far she can go, or to claim that she willing failed up the task, disobeying a direct order received from someone who allowed her to have such robes in the first place Ferdinand does mention the City's Lord himself allowed Myne to have her robes, so disagreeing with it is going against his will, which shields her from most things, but taking such privilege and she goes back into being a plebeian, to take her blue robe privileges or life.

And about Schicoza, he managed to not get sent to the Church by his family, became a Knight and was one of the first choices to be an escort for Myne due to being deemed capable at such time, so it is fair to assume that his capabilities are at least above average, which should include Mana levels, and as "above average" i mean as in "not mediocre at least."

But perhaps i made too far of an assumption given that there aren't any solid clue to confirm it.

He woukd have done it if Fernand wasnt there.
Fernand is the step brother of the city lord, and is a true noble unlike the arch bishop. Aka, while for temple duties Fernand is below him, in noble society Fernand is higher ranked than him being a true noble. Only reason Bishop is able to get away with things is due to favoritism from his sister who is the city lords mother

That is why he name dropped the city lord, so Fernand couldnt say anything

Schicoza was sent to the church, he left the church due to the mana shortage needing more nobles. He and damian were made to escort Myne because they are the 2 weakest. Normally Myne shouldnt face any threat and worst case scenario they can grab her, fly and send a signal. They dont have people to waste

As for knowing his strength
The country had an internal civil war where many died, as a result, 2 things were done to the church
1) country church recruited most of the higher mana priests
2) they temporary allowed a fast pass system where people who failed to become nobles like servents and clergy have a chance to become a noble

Becoming a noble means learning mana compression and getting that magic batton, both increase your mana, there is also blessing cerimony. But mana compression takes a while and most mana growth happens during childhood and teen years. As for blessing cerimony, being a priest it is possible he benefitted but knowing him he likely never prayed in earnest so its possible he got nothing

But it is unlikely the bishop would know how much his mana got better after becoming a noble. He would only know based on how he was in the church. And since he wasnt good enough to be recruited by the sovereignty temple he was already on the low end amongst priests. And again, since he wasnt made a servent he is probably below most lay nobles

So priests are actually looked down upon because most of them are not royal academy graduate. but the temple is responsible for mana management aka chalice distribution. high bishop is being put in the temple by his father family, due to him having mana of mednoble level when he is a descendant of archducal line.
his sister is using his position to deprive her faction enemy of their chalices. he longed to be real noble, which means to enter and graduate from royal academy. but of course, his sister won't let him out of the temple.
his niece, who is now in other duchy, ask him for the helping in filling these chalices as a measure to check on both High Priest and Myne mana and because her duchy isn't able to keep up with mana demand.
