Just in case, the context is that in the original Gundam, Char's Zaku is red and is 3 times faster than a regular zaku, resulting in the always popular meme of "painting something red makes it 3 times faster" in a lot of jp media and social media
I thought that it was a Warhammer 40k reference. As some Ork once said - "DA RED WUNZ GO FASTA!!!"

I’ve read the whole LN and its appendix, and this part kinda has the weakest reasoning in the entire novel in my opinion.

Like, yes, he acquired a single individual with high noble’s mana, a whole new industry, and otherworldly knowledge, but he would need to sacrifice his mother’s entire faction which holds is entire duchy together, I’m not sure it’s a sound decision if I were him.
The thing with factions within nobility/royalty is that they can be beneficial or detrimental.
If it didn't become painfully obvious, his mother giving her brother literally a blatant "free pass" to bypass his authority shows that veronica and her faction are detrimental to his authority. (if she did it this once in such a blatant way as to involve foreign nobility, then she has done so before).

As such by allowing her brother to not only break the "law" but involve foreign nobles, she has "twisted his arm",so, he can :
a) Do nothing to her and in extension his uncle and possibly the foreign noble (then punish Myne and everyone that protected her), and show everyone who wears the "big pants" in the dutchy, and whose word carries weight.

b) He can only punish his uncle and the foreign noble, that will again show that the one who is in control of the duchy is his mother, and all he can do is react to her whims, when and if he becomes aware of them.(and have the sentence of the uncle will be overruled by his mother if she's left alone)

c) Punish his mother along with is uncle and foreign noble, and use this event as a very valid excuse to prevent her faction from "calling foul" and the punishment unjust.

In my opinion this event leaves him with no other recourse other than to use this event to take her out of the political landscape.

Will her faction's nobles be happy?
No.
Can they react without them also be branded traitors to the duchy?
No, they can't.

So, the only recourse Veronica's faction nobles have (sans an insurrection and civil war), is to put their head down and pretend they didn't knew about Veronica's "indulgences" to bypass the duchy's laws.

There's actually a reason why red is the color of leaders in various sentai shows or other shounen things, it's a Japanese thing too!

Though, heh, knowing what I know about the future of this series...

SAVOR THIS CHAPTER!!, the consequences were MASSIVE, but at this point in the manga we barely knew what was really happening and the implications of him doing everything he did for the sake of Myne, Ferdinand and ultimately Ehrenfest.

This is one of the best manga i have ever read, by far.

Like, if it were other nobles I’d have no doubt they’d pull the move without a second thought, but it’s Sylvester.

He’s characterized by his doting mother, begrudging sister, and he only became motivated to be a better person just to woo his crush. We know he’s a decent person, and he knows when to act as a proper aub when needed. And likely because of the last one that made him do it. It doesn’t seem like his wife nudged him on this matter either.

Still, I just find it hard for me to believe that he had it in him. That Sylvester the Aub would overcome Sylvester the person and do it.

I wonder if Sylvester already wanted to punish his mother if he is fine doing it just because of Myne. If yes, I wonder why.
there’s a lot to it but this chapter we saw him say that his mother had been coddling the high bishop, who had been a major headache for Ferdinand for a LONG time.

also, for those wondering about Rosemary the 3rd wife
she was a mednoble who married a very important archnoble so her family went mad with power and started acting like archnobles. This ticked off the 2nd wife who started bullying her, and then when Karstedt started supporting her, the first wife had to step in and back the 2nd wife (despite them being from opposing factions) to keep the family balanced. And now the first wife will be worried that bringing in the supposed daughter of the 3rd wife will cause more chaos

Personally, I prefer Rozemyne. Cuz Z make her sound stronger.
I also think the "Z" is better.
I recall reading that many names in the series are made-up words based on German.
And Rozemyne sounds more German than Resemyne
