I can't believe i missed the evaporation part.
I missed it in the alleged first go-around too. It wasn't until someone pointed out in an imaginary comment thread that I went back and saw that those scorch marks were indeed human-shaped...:worry:

Makes me wonder how this was portrayed in the novel

Man, completely forgot that Ferdinand nuked the hallway, only the scorchmarks are left.
And that's with a controlled release of mana. Considering what damage Myne must do, with mana on the same scale as him, if she were to lose control of it, it only makes sense that Ferdinand saw her execution inevitable if she was unwilling to be adopted.

There's no ashes on the ground in the novel. Those people were literally vaporized, nothing left of them. The ashes in the manga are just to let the reader see that someone was there earlier.

The High Bishop had survived thanks to the bands of light wrapped around him, but he was completely frozen, his eyes wide open. It must have been terrifying to see the huge beams of mana colliding right in front of him. The gray shrine maidens and collapsed Devouring soldiers, however, were nowhere to be seen; they had no means of protecting themselves from the explosion of mana that had erased them from existence.

Honestly, that might have been a kinder fate than what awaits them for assaulting a noble's daughter...

The anime is way more light-hearted, whether it is that scene or the serie as a whole. For that scene, for example, in the anime Gunther is barely wounded (he himself says it's just a scratch), Damuel is fine and conscious after the fight, ...

SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO ONLY READ MANGA AND HAVE NOT WATCHED ANIME OR READ LN: As however in the novel (and manga), Gunther is badly wounded on his arm, it was limp and he could barely move it. Damuel was hit so badly he fell unconscious and stayed that way likely for more than an hour, and only regained consciouness with healing magic

Thanks for the upload, I didn't even look at the earlier snipe... No way am I going to read 60 chapters of consistently good quality translations from one group only to switch to a sniper right at the end.

Thanks, you saved me a minute.
And thanks @RonBWL for the refreshment, i would have stayed oblivious, and that was a big deal, so I can now place the threat of magic more accurately in this world.

I never understood why people get mad over re-uploads ?
extra options is not a bad thing and if the first one was better, just read that one ?

It is exactly because of this:

You think it is a new chapter and it turns our your life is empty for a bit longer.

Our glorious verbal (and physical, I hope) smiting of the two fat piggies will served after this appetiser
Random tidbit, the author at first couldn't decide whether fernand or the high priest should be the bad guy. In one of their drafts the high priest was the one who helped Myne with the arch duke against the sinister half brother

I see, thanks! I reread it and saw their hairstyles are slightly different. I guess because they are always shown from far away, I didn't notice them. I thought the one pushed from the shield was Jenni. Why does that unnamed attendant also have malicious intent toward Myne?
I will gesture vaguely at the current United States political climate as an explanation. They spent so long abused and manipulated by the High Bishop that they'll believe anything he says about the "dirty blooded commoner tainting the Church".

Also some misplaced jealousy at how Myne treats the grey priests serving under her, which is EXTREMELY KIND by the standards of the Church, especially the Shrine Maidens which aren't required in the least to entertain male vistors. Double up how she pretty much took over the orphanage and changed it from a rathole to some place people could actually live, and... yeah... A lot of misplaced rage there too.

The attendants don't care that much about commoner or not. Their thinking may be more simplistic that if they take Myne hostage that can rescue the high priest and get rewarded while also keep their lives.

Because reality is,

even if they get in the barrier, if the high priest loses they are dead. Think ancient Egypt where all the servents get killed with their master. So anyone who can think clearly would target Myne there

Even after many rereads, of the LN and manga, I don't know why Ferdinand cares about erasing evidence. For one thing, the actually important witnesses (Toad and High Bishop) are still alive and well. For another, it's evidence of his enemies' crimes. Why erase it?

Too many witnesses statements can cloud the judgement, especially since attendants and consuming underlings are incentivized to lie to cover to their master. By simplifying the number of people involved to minimum, it's much easier to charge Toad & High Bishop and have them properly executed.

Also, the ones who were "removed" were commoners, so any evidence they could provide would just be mere verbal testimonies, which have zero weight against the words of the nobles. Since those commoners have (almost) no mana, no way to use the magic tool to read their memories.

So it's just simpler to not waste time with them, and only focus on the mana-wielders, and read their minds.
