Yuu suddenly acting so withdrawn and sullen is definitely a shock, I'm real curious to see where this is going now :O It sure feels like insecurity, especially with her immediately trying to reinforce her special relationship with Umika. I can't wait for the next chapter !

Their parted hair at the forehead is not much evidence...
nor Ito's little hidden hairdo bumps (under-brushed wavy hair not buns like Yuu),
nor the expressions for little 口 and smiles...
especially nor eye and hair color being off barely a shade...
(maybe-not-so-)subtle... but it does feel like and visually look like Ito and Yuu are somehow related. Family.👾

This psychic alien got her body and human side from somewhere considering her memories and what gramps talked to was more eldritch. Gentle eldritch.

A clone of Ito's family? A runaway cousin with a trauma reset? Something like that. The mind merged incarnation option is more interesting and more classic.

The backstory could be sad but I feel confident it's not grim. At least not body-snatcher or lab experiment grim. And it'd be good for Yuu to get adopted so she can show off to more folks at the inevitable wedding!

I think we'll find out more about Ito and Yu in chapter 70, so it's anyone's guess for now.

I've run into a bit of a snag translating the next chapter: I don't have volume 6, and for this one I had to make do with just a low-quality preview. So now it's just a waiting game. But hey, at least I've got volume 5!

Ever since childhood, Ito has experienced the world as if she's living in a Stephen King horror movie—hearing terrifying noises, seeing red objects flying in the sky, and perceiving certain people as monsters. She spent her entire childhood in hospitals, so she never tells anyone about her hallucinations. Whenever she looks at Yu, she sees a faceless humanoid instead. Now imagine Ito watching Umika hold hands with a faceless monster.

The contributors at TVTropes theorize that Ito reacts so strangely to Yu because she can't actually see or hear her at all, and is just playing along with her senpais to hide her mental health issues. I'll leave it up to you to decide what exactly Ito sees: a shapeless humanoid or just an empty void.
