I'm gonna take a different angle and say I'm kinda glad they chose to end it. It's kind of a mercy kill -- it's much more preferable to end a story that's floundering and start a new and better one than it is waiting for a stillborn one to get better. Not that this was "bad", the premise was brilliant. But like others have said it both added too many characters and didn't do enough with any of them, including the two main ones. The art style also made it hard to tell some of them apart from one scene to another, they needed more distinct designs as well.
But yeah, it was a good premise and I actually liked the characters who were introduced. Only the execution/presentation was off, but that can be improved with practice. I look forward to the mangaka's future work. It was a wonderful experience reading.
Thanks so much for translating, Bowl of Laksa!
