I was expecting a bit more of a stereotypical mother doting on the genius sister while belittling MC type relationship. I wasn't expecting the line at the end about his confidence/recognition of his hard work, almost as if she knows she is the reason why he is the way he is.

His mother also looked like she had bags under her eyes - is she a single mom? I don't recall if they ever mentioned his dad.

There's that well known fact about how being US president is one of the most dangerous jobs because of how many have died on the job. I wonder what the statistics for Japanese idols are.

She is not trying to be nice. She is just content of the results. Considering how scared shitless he is in case his grades drops, i'm sure she is as vile as she looks on the inside as well. No person (specially a child) would be this timid and scared next to their parents unless something in their parents character / actions warrants it. Hopefully this will be showcased and resolved in the future.
