Mtl lol

I can guarantee my translations are MTL-free

Although I do mainly take on baihe (Chinese GL) projects, this one's been on my to-do list even before the previous translator picked it up lol (and even before the actual manhua release)
I was gonna wait until you got caught up before reading, but if it’s not mtl I might actually re-read everything

Thanks for picking this up after the disaster that just happened

Oh hey, someone new picked it up. Looks good to me. I like how it feels more natural to read in English. I can't tell if it's a more accurate translation since I don't know Chinese, but it sure as hell makes more sense from the get go.

@JusrKora Since you seem to know Chinese well, would you mind helping me understand how you translated the names? I've been doubting the MC's name translation by LT to "Violet" since I read this comment, which LT didn't respond to:

Screenshot_2025-01-14-11-33-45-31_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.jpg

Also, while the MC's name translation became more comparably phonetical (no clue what to call when you use the readings instead of the meanings to translate the hanja) like in Chinese, the dragon's name seems kinda like a liberal interpretation, like "Violet" was.

Just curious. I still like "Aurora" much more. Reading Chinese names is kind of annoying to me. They just don't sound natural when surrounded by English text. So when pronouncing them in my mind, it almost feels like I suddenly got a grape stick in my throat or my tongue got tied.

That's partly why I mostly avoid reading Chinese and Korean works, unless something looks particularly interesting. Those two are what I call "contortionist languages", where you have to do some extra tongue/mental gymnastics to pronounce anything.

And, since you seem to be more active on the Chinese side, would you mind recommending me good series? I like GL, and it almost feels like I ran out of Japanese content for that. But when I tried reading Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess! I was kind of disappointed.

I wonder why the webtoons (read here manhuas and manhwas) are mostly victims for this kinda drama that either results in chapters being nuked, stopping uploading to MD, sudden occurrences of gaps, etc...

I saw a couple of mangas too, but webtoons from my observations are really the ones that get the short end of the stick with fanslations.

πŸ˜‹ thanks, i got someone doing post-chapter upload quality checking lol. All my mistakes even from little cleaning specs get caught.

For the names, the orginal mc's name was θ–‡θŽ‰δΈ (Weilisi) since it's a foreign name, I didn't transliterate it. (Plus Weilisi sounds really weird) "Vellis" actually came from one of my irl friends' names. Plus it sounded close enough to the chinese yk.

And as for Aurora (ζ™“ε…‰), I don't know how the previous tl got "Xiao Guang" even if you sucked ass at tling, you shouldve still gotten Xiaoguang. Breaking the names apart creates an extra surname that never existed. Also "xiao" is a honorific in chinese meaning "little" (it's often used with younger people you're close to) and if you put "xiao Guang" instead of "Xiaoguang" it makes it seem like the mc is hella close with the dragon girl already. I didn't transliterate this one just incase in the future I encounter a 小晓光 (xiao-Xiaoguang) and that just sounds really really weird. As for how I got "Aurora," the character's in her orginal chinese names are ζ™“ε…‰ which ζ™“ stood for "dawn" and ε…‰ stood for "light." I learned somewhere (probably from my insane tiktok addiction) that the goddess of dawn in Roman Mythology was named "Aurora" and i just stole that name πŸ€—

Ouhhh 😒 i loved pbmmv
My all-time-favorite baihe would be Daughter of Evil and Miss Devil and that's it. No other series was able to fill my craving for isekai, magical girls, and yeah!

If you like slowburn, I'd say try out "Long-Awaited Feelings." It's also top tier imo

Thanks a lot for the explanation and the recommendations. I'll try them and see how it goes. Though, not too hopeful since Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess! also started out well.

Nowadays, I try to only read finished works, which saved me from a lot of pain. I always skim through the comments on the END chapter to see what the general sentiment is, and, most of the time, it's people saying it was axed and/or started out well but turned bad.

For example, the bullet I dodged yesterday was Usotsuki Satsuki wa Shi ga Mieru, which I had bookmarked and noticed that it was finished. Not only was it axed, but it was yuri bait.

I'm not "the journey is more important than the destination" kind of guy. The end is what decides whether the journey was worth it or not.

For example, you might have had a happy family life with your wife and child for years, but if it turns out that your wife cheated on you and the kid isn't yours, well...you've been living a lie and I wouldn't be surprised you'd chose to end your life. It just gives a completely different context to everything you've experienced so far.

Anyway, unrelated, but that's how I feel about reading ongoing works. I'd rather know the author didn't just shit the bed halfway through.

You mean you actually took the time to put real thought into what you were translating instead of just deciding "good enough" and letting us figure it out?

I know there's at least one other group that is further ahead in their work and I could maybe at least catch up to where I was, but with this knowledge I think I would rather wait and read yours.

maybe im dense, but why do people care as long as u get to read
Modern MTL looks like a decent translation at first glance, but isn't. It is specifically trained to produce what looks like decent English text, but not to be in any way accurate. And of course, it can't understand what it is translating.

If there is a person with good knowledge of source language checking the translation, and a hard-working editor to ensure the terms stay consistent, it's not all bad. But with such a team, is there any need for MTL in the first place?
