I started getting interested back in 2015. The only reason was because I wanted to get spoilers tbh. 😉

At the time being, I can fill in all the roles. But it does become stressful at times when you juggle both scan work and real life. Towards the end, it became clear to me that I liked people reading and watching the same things as me, having the same interests as me, and escaping into worlds of fantasy and fiction. Far away from the hustle and bustle of real life.

Scanlating is simply a hobby for me, though it really feels like a part-time job atm 😅 but, hey! It's fun!

I realized that the group scanlating a series I was reading had dropped it, so in true Thanos style, I did it myself. After that, it kinda snowballed and I picked up two other works. I also TS for Honey Cornmuffins and NoToSolo so my day is filled with manga work and Photoshop.

TL/PR'ing is pretty fun since it lets me write creative scripts and convey the original meaning and flow as best I can even if I have to step away from the original translation.
I personally hate RD/CL but my perfectionist mindset makes me RD everything anyway, so if a chapter has text that isn't boxed it usually increases my work time by quite a bit...
TS is fun but can be annoying when things are literally pixels away from being centered
QC is probably the most exciting portion but probably also the most annoying one since I look over my releases 5-6 times after I TS it to make sure I'm not missing anything, so by the time I actually upload it to Mangadex, all the excitement is gone :( It is rewarding to see other people enjoy it and I definitely do appreciate it very much when someone comments "Thanks for the chapter"

I started using Mangadex back in late March to read this since the aggregate app I was using didn't have all the chapters in the correct order (I have an iPhone, so no tachiyomi rip) and I eventually found a lot more things that I love since then. In fact, I exclusively use Mangadex now. It also brought attention to how much work scanlators put into providing this free of charge especially since credit pages tend to get avoided by MR, so getting into scanlation has definitely resulted from using MD.

Scanlating has definitely increased my PS proficiency quite a bit. I wasn't a total newbie when I started, but before I started I wouldn't be able to tell you how to do almost 75% of the things I can do now with it. So far, the Clone Stamp tool has been a regular staple in how I RD/CL, with appearances made by the Dodge, Burn, and Blur tool.

I think that what helped me differentiate MD from other aggregator sites was how community-focused it was, with comment sections everywhere and both forums and Discord. Considering that most of the interactions here are positive ignoring scanlation drama it definitely has been a key factor into starting scanlating for fun. Also, it made me actually buy Japanese raws not only to share with people, but to also support the author as an act of thanks

btw @pockettrash I love reading the things you release, keep up the good work :) even though you've done much more than me

At first, I just wanted to continue a manga I liked that was stopped updating. I made friends along the way and now here we are. I have a second family of my own. Hehe~
I'm grateful to scanlation bc I got to meet and make friends with a lot of awesome people, and make a circle of close friends. I learned a lot of things as I go. It's been a great experience.
Agreed with @potatofood that it also changes my pov about piracy and appreciate the authors' work more.

However, everything has its dark side. Eventually, you will learn not everything is as good as it seems and there are a lot of dramas and obnoxious individuals. (But you didn't hear it from me lol)

Edit: Stay safe and read manga LOL
