As someone who rarely drinks coffee, it scares me that someone can be so addicted to coffee. My friend once told me not to talk to her if she hasn't had coffee yet, and I thought she was exaggerating.

That's like saying that Kraft Singles is as legit of a cheese as an actual wheel of cheese, it's dumb. Like I get settling with bottom shelf preground stuff. Shit, I do it too. But actually believing that "the beans don't matter" means either you've never had a single good coffee in your life or just willfully ignorant to the matter entirely.
Sorry, let me rectify my statement a bit. Yes, there can be a difference in quality; like any other ingredient, coffee made with bad beans can taste off. But when sommelier sorts come out of the woodwork to say their "exotic blend" made from beans fertilized with the tears of Uruguayan marmosets is superior for its hints of basalt, they're full of it. It tastes like coffee, that's it.

I say this from a place of disillusionment more than anything. I'm hardly high-society, but through my work I have spent many a morning in meetings with posturing rich folk. Every time they've offered a cup of their beau monde joe, it's tasted more or less the same save for how it's roasted.

Maybe I just don't have the palate for it 🤷‍♀️

i know caffeine popular for a quick boost but other than right when you wake up and having a hot drink, i feel like it just makes me sleepy
Uh, don't suppose you have ADHD? That's a very common reaction since people with ADHD react differently to stimulants.

I get that tbh. I’m super into coffee, but I’d be lying if I said most beans don’t taste very similar if their roast levels are comparable. It’s a hobby for sure. I will say though, posturing rich folk probably wouldn't know what actually good coffee was if it kicked them in the throats.

Also a distinct possibility, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt lol. Disparaging their beans would have probably been bad for business.

I’ve heard ppl say that, never got diagnosed , I wouldn’t say it helps me focus or anything but I’d try to avoid energy drinks (most taste meh to me anyways) but I’d imagine at this point my heads too much of a mess of neuroses by now lol , but I wouldn’t rly enjoy coffee or the extra calories enough to have that often for some long term effect , dad buys French roast and uses a Viet maker (filter? You can probably find an image online) but he’s retired now so idk if he drinks coffee too often anymore in the mornings besides outta habit

Idk about cold brew or specific “roasts” but had an ice americano in a mini cafe/bakery once and it just tasted like plain black coffee but the French kind dad had smelled/tasted better altho I’d still need to add more to it/tend to stick to mochas or caramel macchiatos

Had some instant cups? Once of strawberry or so that was like a four pack and some Chinese? Idol on the label so I guess it was some idol Stan brand sponsor but I just chose it bc I liked strawberry versus knowing whatever celeb was on the photo lol

One local place I’ve seen has an option called “Sgt Pepper” so I imagine it’s added chili powder or something like that, or something similar to Mexican hot choco possibly

It would be cool to try coffee in dishes, I think tiramisu is made with coffee? Or coffee flavored cake too

REAL.
I can't drink coffee because ADHD means I'm super sleepy off my meds, and makes me jittery on my meds.

However, tea processes differently for me, so I'm a heavy tea drinker instead. (Insert something about being Indian and drinking black tea since childhood?)

100% the same. If I take my vyvanse AND have coffee I feel jittery and have heart palpitations.

Again, same. I don't seem to have the same issue with tea, so it isn't just caffeine.

That was kinda rude though. He shoulda pulled out the "roasted 3 days ago" batch while the current batch was on the pan. Then as a second cup, serve the fresh stuff. That's a classic way to show someone a new recipe.

I've read that the way caffeine works is different between coffee and tea because of the other elements in them! So they have slightly different effects on people.

That’s how those cooking tv shows do it I believe

Lol now that he knows about the addiction maybe he can deliver beans to him once a week or so but considering he’s fine with Konbini/canned coffee it’s more a caffeine thing than taste at least slightly better than those energy drinks
