outwardly I believe they do express in a similar way. i think the difference is in the cause behind their apparent shyness/aloofness.
dandere - socially inept, awkward, unable to socialize but wants to
kuudere - the aloofness is much more intentional, they don't want to be closer to others for whatever story-related reason, but they are capable of socializing.

at least that's my understanding.

Well then by those definitions half of the "kuudere" I have seen have actually been danderes acting like kuuderes. But I guess I have seen genuine kuuderes.
