Interesting.

Khrollo's ability perfectly embodies his ideology as a "thief", I never considered the possibility that his skill can evolve as he steals things, but it makes perfect sense.

I was gonna say that it is because he is a "specialist" but I think any nen ability could do that with the right conditions. That ability he is using for searching is scary in a funny way, the implications of the intentions behind the original creator of that shows that she may have been a very vain person and that depending... she could be a yandere too.

If Khrollo knows about these treasures, chances are the Zodiac knows about them too, I doubt any run-of-the-mill nen user would be privy to that info, but for the people truly in the know... which means we just discovered Beyond true intention.

He wants those treasures too, nen objects of power of that magnitude aren't something you will find just sitting around in any place, the succession war may be only one of the many possible things it is possible to do with them, a ritual of the size of this war is actually weak sauce if they were used with more powerful and knowledgeable people in the helm.

I just realized one thing that just rocked my mind... remember how in York Shin Chrollo tried to steal Zeno and Silva's abilities? This was the reason, I never understood why he would take such a risk doing such a roundabout thing against such strong Nen users but this was the reason, Chrollo was trying to evolve his ability by stealing the abilities of two extremely strong fighters, and the whole thing with the Spiders robbing the auction? Was just a plan within a plan.

Now everything falls into place... Chrollo wanted the Zoldycks' abilities because he almost didn't survive Silva, then he made the plan to rob the underworld auction because he needed to lay a trap, and not just anyone could pay for BOTH Zeno and Silva.

And the fact he already had hired Illumi to kill the dons was his safety net, he obviously knew such a try would be close to impossible, so he had Illumi on "stand by" so that when things got too hot he would be saved because he already knew how the Zoldycks operate when the contracts overlap.

Some of those things were in plain sight, I bet many had thought this, I did notice some of these "incongruencies" but I never thought of the "why", why would Chrollo take so many risks just to give a try to such a dangerous thing, but now I know... all those years back Chrollo already wanted to evolve his Skill Hunter.

Togashi had this planned for decades now.

Camilla is an interesting pick but a plan involving her ability doesn't seem foolproof enough for Chrollo to go through all this effort. With the chaos of the succession war Camilla might just die before Chrollo can use her ability on Hisoka.
