I was hoping to see Daigo-ji in this. A few years ago, I stayed in a home right next to it and it was one of the first places I visited in Kyoto. It has a special place in my heart. Coming home or leaving, I could walk through its gates past a smaller temple and gardens partly designed by Hideyoshi. An old entrance has gates with big gold Toyotomi crests. The main temple dates to the Heian period and has the oldest wooden structure in Kyoto, miraculously surviving the fires of war. It's not the most popular temple in Kyoto being a bit away from the middle of the city but if you like places that are less busy, consider visiting!
