There's something really heartwarming about them just being kids, coming up with little plans and getting in trouble together. I've read so many (too many lmao) of these heartwarming childcare stories where the main character is perfectly knowledgeable and well-mannered and only gets scolded when they do something virtuous but dangerous, with their biggest personality trait being how unlike other children they are, and any mistakes they make are magically handwaved away or turn out to be secretely genius.
Here, the kids bicker with each other, they eat raw sugar, they put glue on a valuable portrait, and they get scolded appropriately for it. It's nothing huge, and the story still isn't anything incredible, but it's all 100% things I've seen actual kids do, so it feels more realistically endearing.
