I think he really meant that. That Peace may never come and monsters may not be defeated completed as his main goal seems to be to get the end of the 3 years. What his definition of "true ending" is may defer from what Damien expects thus he says to him that day will never come. It's super depressing but I am curious now at what the MC truly wants.
