Though she is still recovering, and might think she'll lose him, they should start explaining what she can't and can do with her subjects bit by bit, and why so. It's important, especially for someone of high status, and who came from an abusive household. She probably holds on to people more than the average.
From what I can tell, Emiel wants to be there by her side with warmth and affection, and make her, maybe not forget as it's impossible but, unattached to her past and focus more on the present and future. However, he should do it reasonably. If she doesn't discern what is appropriate and inappropriate, it will do her no good. I wonder if he, himself, knows that. He might be so blinded.
I could only hope someone would point that out for them.
