Knew this looked familiar. It's the person that does that elf romcom. It feels like the same relationship dynamic, tbh. Not that I mind.

Isn't the title most accurate translated as 'After all the chief is...' or 'In the end the chief is...'?
English isn't my mother language, and I'm trying to learn japanese now so it is a legitimate question.

For this particular translation of the title, we're not looking at it in the textbook kind of way, where types of clauses have their own given translation to follow. Instead, since the title comes from Enoki's habit to start a sentence with どうせ部長は whenever she feels frustrated, which leads to her assuming something about the chief, we want to take her characterisation and the context that she says that catchphrase into account.

Take chapter 2 - page 1 - panel 5 - bubble 1 for example:

The context is that the chief has left and her coworkers are starting to leave, so she feels anxious that she's the only one left working overtime. The bubble text here is her jumping to the conclusion that the chief probably thinks she's useless as a result. In this case:
'after all the chief probably thinks I'm useless' or
'in the end, the chief just thinks I'm useless' don't quite fit, if you consider the lines before this one.
Since it's a catchphrase, it should be consistent throughout the chapters, which is why 'I bet' works better as it can adapt to different situations and it creates a cutesy tone for her.

When it comes to translation, I guess, it's less about just being accurate, but more about how to maintain the translation accuracy while paying attention to its suitability in terms of context, characterisation, etc. So yeah, that also gives you flexibility in the translation choices you make. It doesn't have to be 'I bet'.

But then again I'm the translator for this series and I just plug the text into Bing TL while smoking weed anyway so idk what I'm saying.

Above is quite detailed since you said you're a beginner, so I wanted you to understand why there's flexibility in translations. And since your inquiry was about the title which is pretty important, I don't mind answering here. If you've got any questions about the translations or editing in the future though, hit us up at our Discord server or comment on our MangaDex group page. I'd rather keep the comment section clean, with comments about the manga rather than the scans work behind it.

How can Otousan make so soothing love stories. It's not too sweet and no fan-service. Also, it's weird considering that his first big story was about a demon king pet.
