I like how they show you that Shannets hand is trembling because she probably wants to tell them that it was Tia the one who found out. It is a great detail, to be honest.

I see. So "the reason" (as i think we're told to believe) she said to Tia she had to be present too is so she could listen to the "A Woman can't be head of the family" speech. Because she knows how capable she is, so she needed to show herself strong in front of Tia, so she needed her there to steel herself, and also she wanted her there so Tia could see her pass the first hurdle, a precedent. All that, so that Tia can hold a position too when she grows

Their aunt is the head of her family, does that not count as being in the empire? Tia specifically mentions that it is allowed, but there are only a few female heads, so her great aunt takes pride in it and would rather be called by her proper title.
