It felt so long ago but it's all coming together!! They're gonna make Angenas broke or face financial difficulties! 10,000 gold to bribe Perez to go to the academy, a huge enough sum that the Empress has to sell several territories already, then the secret company's selling 3x timber prices to drain their funds more and now another 10,000 gold? Even though it wasn't sucessful, the 100 gold for some timber negotiation from super cool Clerivan (probably didn't take up but it sure is some pressure). Gosh, S3 is so exciting!

Remember, Perez is also looking out for the Emperor's best interests. The Emperor doesn't want to punish Angenas, his wife's family, but is being forced to do so. Perez found the best solution for the Emperor. It's a seemingly light punishment for Angenas, but since Perez offered the solution, the Emperor won't be accused of being soft or showing favoritism. What the Emperor doesn't know is Angenas is desperate for resources, both timber and money.

The loss of money stings, but losing timber is worse. Since the North will no longer be logging for trade, there are currently two powers who have stocks of timber. Pellet Trading Company and Perez's (secret) company. Since Pellet Trading is donating their Timber to the North, Perez is now the sole supplier of timber on the market, meaning he can jack up the price as high as he wants. Perez can now drain all of Angenas wealth, and increase his own wealth.

Perez has put himself in an incredibly advantageous position with one move. He has gained the favor of the Emperor. Hurt Angenas wealth once with the fine and twice with his timber monopoly. Has gained his enemy's wealth as his own. Grandpa Lombardi is not aware of Perez's control of the timber market, but this move greatly helps Lombardi's (Tia's) end goal of completely destabilizing Angenas. That's five birds one stone.

With Perez also volunteering to supervise the North, he has gained the favor of the Nobles, lowered the first prince's position, improves his connections with the North, and he gets to see Tia again. Four more birds for another stone.

A grand total of 9 birds for 2 stones!

Another important thing to point out is the fact that Perez explicitly said he didn't want to hinder the development in the west too much, as the territory might not be in Angenas' hands forever. I wouldn't be surprised if his ultimate goal is to empty Angenas' pockets and then start to buy their assets.

And if Angenas can't pay then they'd have to turn to the banks or money lenders and it seems if it's not Lombardi it's Pellet and Perez's company.. playing the long game for sure 😂

Grandpa knows, he just wanted to break Angenas but had to hold back because his lovely Granddaughter wanted to execute them herself. The Angenas still has the power from the emperor and cannot be touched by simple accusation, therefore The Lombardi had to be discreet so Johannes won't be suspicious with the losses. Meanwhile the banks are currently not in a complete control from Lombardi as the Emperor has his own bank readily available but cannot directly assisting his in laws.
