The other group translating this translated it as "mentor", which seems about the right fit. "Teacher" works but is maybe a little impersonal, "master" definitely carries the wrong portrayal of their (public) relationship.

If he does nothing, nothing will change, because our main goober has a preconception(that Perez had previously, and thus will again end up with that girl) and a mission(to inherit Lombardi and save it), and is too hyperfocused to see any options.

In an apprenticeship sense, or in such cases as students learning martial arts, "Master" in the context of a teacher or mentor is also an acceptible term to refer to such a person. In stories like this, apprentices under an accomplished individual or Sages in other fantasy titles can also be referred to as such.

Whatever floats your boat, really. But I don't find anything particularly worrisome about it since this is the established context between Tia and Clerivan.
