Guessing this is the final arc of the story.

I have the hunch that the mc will try to take the fall and willingly turn himself in to the police.

Then there will be a time skip to them meeting again after he gets out of prison.

Edit:I was legitimately guessing by the way, but I have the hunch I accidentally guessed right cause of the X reactions spoiling it for me...

I assume that anime version I never saw goes beyond this. Gonna spoiler blur this just in case.

And then 3 days before dying she’ll call her to say sorry about what she said, and the daughter will have no choice but to forgive her… anyway we’re pretty close to where the anime ended, I wonder if there’s another arc after that or if the story will end like the anime did

Never liked the mother in the anime and in the light novel. Classic example of a narcissist. "Me, Me, Me" is all she says. She doesn't even take one second to consider the shit she's put her own daughter threw, her own son threw.

I sincerely hope she dies a cold and painful death.

Fuck. Her.

Even having watched the anime years ago, I still have to ask myself:

As a parent how do you even come back from this? You've effectively killed yourself in front of both of your children. No matter how this issue is resolved they'll remember this shit for the rest of their lives that deep down you put your own image over their well-being.

Cannot be solved without a mediator

A third party has to mediate, tell the child that the parent does not really mean it, and facilitate a meeting between the parent and the child.
