Yeah, that was borderline psychopathic behavior and not how a suicidal person would normally act. They would throw subtle hints around, if that, and maybe leave behind a note/video before committing in a way where no one could interfere. This is just hyperbolic dramatization and an inaccurate representation by the author in order to create the scenario where Sayu's mother think Sayu might have committed murder, because Sayu's mother's portrayal apparently wasn't bad enough.
