I understand the premise has to be for him to be the shield of the young hero, but these kinds of stories make my head ache since I have common sense.

This is why I'm adverse to stories that are based on stats and game mechanics, since anyone could see a bulky man that can take a hit would most likely be able to lay flat some piss poor thug from a bar.
