@Oeconomist I imagine she was making chocolate cupcakes as chocolate is the go-to for valentines day and if you are trying to make anything with chocolate, typically people will rough chop the chocolate to make it melt faster and even if it's just a mix-in for cupcakes or something, giving the chocolate a bit of a chop can make the dessert have a bit of a rustic/handmade feel to it.

then take into account her cupcakes had something on top so there could have been any kind of nut or dried/fresh fruit, there are lots of things to chop for cupcakes.

also unsurprisingly if you aren't used to using a knife in the kitchen you can make a lot of small, dumb mistakes, some people are even intimidated by using a knife in the kitchen and mishandle them because of this.

also. after rereading the chapter, even though they somewhat appear to be cupcakes, not a single character refers to them as such, so they could be just about anything involving chocolate.

While it's true that you might need a knife to make a dessert involving chocolate, you usually want to chop the ingredients (the chocolate itself or any kind of nut) opposed to cut them.
If a knife comes in contact with your hand while chopping you're sure to lose a piece of your finger not just get some light cuts.

@Next1306 this may seem unobvious but I do have an idea about the difference between chopping and cutting, also, I literally just chopped up chocolate for a ganache on a Boston creme pie and I assure you, you can, in fact, get small cuts on your hand, especially if you are paying attention to the TV and not the knife in your hand, and super especially if you are not sober.

I have seen plenty of amateurs in the kitchen cut themselves or hurt themselves in ways that would confuse and confound you.

also, if I was making chocolates or something like this for the first time (like she is) I would just use a food processor to save time and because I wasn't used to the knife.

kids, never cook under the influence. it's an easy way to get hurt

What's so hard about making handmade chocolate anyway? You just buy some chocolate, melt it, give it a nice shape and let it solidify. It's probably a cliche in mangas to create dark matter instead of food. Huh?

@monkey123 she has cuts on her hands, so my guess is she chopped the chocolate into smaller pieces before melting it, but realized she could add her blood too, as the secret ingredient. That, or she just wanted to taste-test while the mixer were still running, and got her fingers entangled and majorly messed up (lucky it is manga world, where bandaids fix everything!).

@traveling_chef I doubt she was drunk, but... please dont use knives for complicated things when drunk, or be distracted and not even looking at your cutting board. Of course you are going to cut yourself in ways that are literally figuratively impossible.
