Maybe she was just starting out in her idol career and couldn't stay with him, so to make him give up on her, she invented a boyfriend.

Hebo was the childhoodriend with short hair. She wasn’t with him in highschool because her family had moved when they were in elementary iirc

I read quickly and ended up getting it wrong. Just one question. Are they high school friends? How did the friend know about Hebo being Sato's first love? The author could have explained it better, like saying that they were friends in middle and high school.

I think their reunion/meetup wasn’t of highschool/middleschool friends but of elementary school friends since they called Hebo too and the last time she was with them together was probably in elementary school before they parted ways.
Maybe the Satou stayed friends with the others who were present at the reunion in highschool too and the other guy might have been his bestfriend back then so he knew about Satou’s crush on Hebo.
It’s not mentioned how he knew and I don’t think it’s important either. All you need to know is Satou and Hebo were together in elementary and they both liked each other. If we’re going by the cliches, Hebo became an idol to catch Satou’s attention but we’ll have to wait and see.
