Had me thinking it was April Fools for a sec with how that first page was moving, then I remember thats just the dialogue in this story.

I kinda feel like that girl in the flashback is actually Abi herself. Those eyes basically just look like hers but with less make-up. Top of p19's a really good comparison. The artist here's pretty good at giving characters distinct faces, so it feels unlikely that this is a coincidence. Even if the girl there isn't her, there's almost certainly some connection, like it's her sister or she's mimicking their look or something.

she does look similar in that panel, but the black irises are only there once (otherwise abi has light colored irises with slit pupils), so i’m inclined to say they’re not the same. my vote is for friend or sister

Edit: And just to add, I haven't watched Whiplash in ages, so maybe it's some scene I don't remember. The famous things I remember from the movie are the "not my tempo" scene and the ending.
