The society makes it so that we are all just a nameless part of the machine that slowly moves the world forward, but that movement is only apparent, because our lives stand still in one place. And we all had names in the past, and hopes, and dreams, but those things are unnecessary and undesirable in this cold world, so we have to cast them away and become just another number on the company's reports. We lead monotonous lives, where every day is the same, at those companies other people are just another faceless, nameless parts of the machine and the job we do doesn't hold any meaning to the the ones who do it. And even when we've had enough of such a life and we want to end it all, we can't. We can't, because putting an end to our lives requires courage and initiative, which both have been crushed long ago by this soulless world. And we can't kill our emotions either, because it's impossible to close our hearts, even when the only thing they hold is emptiness. Therefore, we have to live in this colorless world, be part of this soulless society, do our pointless jobs and suffer, because of our painful hearts.

I can't say I'm a fan of such an approach on life and certainly things are getting better in the work industry than they were 30+ years ago(I think), so it's better to have a positive approach to life. Of course, if you have depression it may not be possible to have a positive approach due to the nature of the sickness, but when you can it's best to find some bits of hope and happiness even in the small things in life.
