It's less of a trope and more of a sad reality really. They were enraged she contracted an unknown spirit since that means she will ruin their house's reputation, or that she's not useful as an asset of the family for marriage and whatnot. But now that she contracted a legendary spirit, they have something to boast about, and will want to use her somehow.
