Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san - Vol. 20 Ch. 150 - Senpai was just being really gross as usual

Nagatoro is upset because he lied.

Paisen is upset because he got caught.

These are not the same.
That's right. Unfortunate that I forget this (mainly when taking a peek at some Reddit AITA stories) when it's a very important distinction!
Through my lenses/opinion, he felt bad for lying to Nagatoro at first; then felt bad for getting discovered, enough to get defensive. After that, because of this defensiveness, couldn't "remember" that the main emotion here was because he lied first.

Say what you want but you gotta respect how ride or die that kouhai is. Girl saw her senpai in a pinch and was immediately ready to square up. That's some real loyalty.
Honestly, both Nao and Nagatoro have great friends. Gamo immediately confronted Paisen in a healthy way to back up her bestie

As someone in an incredibly healthy and happy relationship of 9 years; ya'll need to stop pointing fingers.

Both were in the wrong in their own ways. Honestly, aside from straight up cheating, there aren't many circumstances in a relationship where it can be considered "what you did was worse than what I did."

The important thing about this chapter is that both Nagatoro and senpai had their respective boundaries which were crossed. The lying is bad and senpai wasn't actively cheating; Nagatoro has every right to be mad and she should still respect her partner's privacy by asking to see the sketch.

What I really like about this chapter is that they both did something wrong, they both recognized that there is an issue that needs to be addressed, and it is setting up for what I assume will be an open and honest conversation between the two.

Relationships aren't perfect and there will always be problems; the key is healthy communication and being willing to allow space for the validity of both you and your partner's feelings.

Big, big oof: Nagatoro finally got hit with something so rough she couldn't even keep the teasing facade up.

Naoto learning that he has to keep it honest with her because despite the talk she's still a gal with body insecurities learning about love.

Also, shout out to Gamo coming up in the clutch after not having much of presence in recent chapters.

The problem here is that, Naoto's privacy has, NOT ONCE, EVER been a barrier he actually got mad about, they have always been incredibly open with each other, but now that they're dating an arbitrary barrier now exists that got made in like a single chapter? Come the fuck on

All the way back in chapter 7 or so, when Nagatoro says something out of line, Naoto lets her know and she immediately backs down and apologizes, here Naoto only got defensive about something that has never been an isue before because he got caught lying.

Nagatoro made him cry twice at the beginning when they met, now Senpai has made her cry twice since their confession, it makes you think.

From heartcrushing and despair from Senpai's idiocy to full hope thanks to Gamo-sama and the evolution of Chadpai... also the bunny

a girl cried, so the nearest man is at fault by definition and he must appease her

sure i get that there's a little more to this situation than that. but that's still a big part so there is still a problem

on the bright side, "I have become so weak" might be a setup for great development, nagatoro understanding that a girl can't choose to not be weak period, that she can at most choose to whom to be weak, and that it's her pride to be weak to a good man

in ch 1, she had the power to make him cry. now, he has that power over her. and it's obvious that it's been a good change for both. this reflects immutable realities of human sexuality.

I agree with your point that she shouldn't go through his things...

However context is important here... they have a dynamic where she normally does that...

Like she's been going through his things since issue 1 bro. that's their normal. So that isn't her doing something wrong against him, because that is the dynamic he's allowed and fostered. (implicit permission basically, like you don't ask your girlfriend to kiss her every single time... after the 10th it's the norm).

And it isn't like she does it maliciously, she's legit curious about him, and what he does.

You know what isn't their normal? paisen lying to her.

That's the mistake, that's the issue, it wasn't that he dude a nude painting (like he wrongly thinks) it's that he lied to her.
He didn't allow it, he couldn't stop it. Because she was, you know, bullying him.

Hayase already apologized when Naoto pointed out she snooped in. Naoto however did not apologized for hiding and lying to Hayase, dragging the situation more than it should, on top of creating this issue in the first place, he had a feeling the whole nude painting can be potentially a talking point. Yes nude art is part of artist's job, but human are emotional creatures too, better have a talk to avoid headache situation, let your partner who is not in the same background get used to the fact. You're in a couple, have some consideration to your partner.
Can you not read or see? He tried to apologize and she just runs away.

Unfortunately, this manga fell in the same trap as so many others where the man is always to blame in a conflict. Happened in Do-Chokkyuu Kareshi, in Ase to Sekken and in Love After World Domination, to name a few, and it always makes me feel less invested in them. Naoto lied because he was being relentlessly pressed by Nagatoro to give a quick reply about a difficult topic for him, she didn't even apologize properly for snooping in his stuff and now the manga makes it seem like he's the only one at fault. Nagatoro even straight up ignored him.

No. Paisen never made privacy an issue until he got caught.
He never made it an issue before because he was too spineless to complain and because he was getting bullied. And because someone doesn't make an issue of something doesn't mean it's ok to do it. If you feel entitled to violate someone's privacy just because they don't seem to mind, you're a dumbass either way.
