@Destroyman My point is that something having a romance doesn't automatically make it a romcom, nearly every goddamn hollywood film has romance crammed in it even when it doesn't need it, simply because people like it. but that doesn't mean that it becomes the main focus of the movie.
theres a structure to a romcom. its obviously focused on the romance, tends to have cheesy "lewd" scenes like accidently seeing a person naked in a shower and all your other cliches, and is based very strongly on the main ship. you could literally take all romance out of komi and it wouldn't be that much different. its a slice and life series. the literal first chapter governs the goal for komi to make 100 friends. THAT is the goal. a budding romance is a side plot. You could have multiple chapters in komi without literally any main character because the series is so much about the entire school, but doing that would be really weird in say....this very series right here, where EVERY chapter involves the 2 main characters. its feels a lot like the amazing "World" of gumball where there are literally episodes that dont feature any main character because the world is built well enough to survive without them.
unironically one of my favorite chapters of komi is literally just a peaceful chapter where she decides to grow a tomato garden. No other character appears, there isnt very much comedy, and the goal is simple. You're never gonna see something like that in an actual romcom. Komi's romance is meh and its because their practically isn't any! Perhaps with recent arcs you've gotten the impression that there's a big focus on romance, but very clearly in the grand scheme of things they've been spread thinly throughout the series in little arcs or singular chapters(as opposed to say this series where every chapter can have it). If you only read komi for the romance, it wouldnt surprise me that you dont think its that great(and yet you've supposedly read every chapter despite not really caring for either main character and thinking the romance is awful....so i cant help but think that its the other parts that are keeping you reading)
