Oh god. Have we reached the point where he has to throw in the towel but doesn't realize it yet?

That Comedy tag is really out of date.
As Kirei Cake so aptly put it:

I don't remember who said it. But it was from kids media.

"It can't be smiles all the time. And that's ok. Because sometimes when it is dark, you remember why smiles are so warm."

This is kinda dragging on.
I do get the goal here. And I don't think it's being badly written or anything, but yeah, repeated, unrelenting despair chapters does make the consistent reading less fun. I still want to have faith in Nanao, and based on rough page count estimates, we've got 2 chapters left before the end of the volume (3 if they're short chapters), so I'm trying to hold on to the hope that this week was pretty much rock bottom, we'll see what that looks like a little more next week, but maybe even by the end of that chapter, there's gonna be a glimmer, a hand reached out, something, and by the end of the volume, we'll have a goal and in mind (even if in the short-term, it's something we know won't work out, like him joining up with Team Time-Reversal, or something) and a light to keep burning.

We're really heading south huh :fml:
The double meaning didn't hit me until well after finishing the translation. I did a little bit of looking into it but apparently it's not like that in Japanese (outside of one instance I found of it, in Jujutsu Kaisen, of all things, along with a lot of Japanese readers of that series mystified by what it meant). A small chuckle to save some sanity for the English-speaking audience, at least.
