I feel similarly. Oneshots are designed to tell a (mostly) complete story with intentional endings (perhaps open-ended if they're fishing for a serialization) and consequently authors tend not to introduce adulterating factors like side characters or plot threads. There's probably a lot of literature about the pros/cons of short-form storytelling that could explain it in better detail, but I'm no fuzzy :lul:

Reading older one shots/anthologies/limited series is a great way to freshen up a stale read list

One shots are also a great way to play around with more abstract or experimental art, like the author does here with the MC's POV panels.
This is why I wish there were more one and two volume manga that weren't the result of an axe. I feel like they tend to have the same benefits of conciseness and cohesiveness, while still having more to actually chew on.

Story about a lesbian having an unrequited love with a straight girl are so dump.
You know from the beginning this is going to be a suffering for the lesbian.
How can you still love someone when she literally laughed at you when you confess and even more when she takes the risk to coming out.

Are oneshots good because they don't have to trickle out the plot to keep people engaged? I feel like I haven't read a bad one.
As long as the story is half-way decent, sure. Saw a fair share of oneshots that had a crap story to tell and, while they told it fully, were still shit.

Why at all did she choose the name Machida Winky Bunion????
that was such a bullshit ending. this definitely isn't GL lmao. stop just putting that tag anywhere just cuz there were two women involved and one had unrequited love that went nowhere.
Why shouldn't it have the GL tag? Like actually? The main focus of the story is about a woman dealing with her attraction to another woman, there is very little way to argue that it somehow isn't yuri. Yuri/GL is not only for manga where the relationship succeeds and they kiss, it doesn't need to be a happy ending. Like the tag is basically meant to say "hey this story involves a lesbianism" and that's very much the case here.

I define girls love as ya know GIRLS plural with feelings with each other or other girls. This just some gay unrequited love. GL tag ain’t right imo but I can be wrong

Anyway she’s way better than being, despite her hateful feelings I feel like she’s entitled to some of them. Cuz I the girl I liked LAUGHED in my face after a serious confession, no contact right there and then fr

I enjoyed this. Kinda wish the yuri went somewhere more concrete, but that just the way it goes. Pretty solid read otherwise.

Thank you for the translation (god Machida is actually so hot. She's so deliciously curvy).

also the author plans out the entire oneshot ahead of time, making for a more comprehensive narrative (in both expositional aspects and figurative/thematic aspects). sometimes manga chapters feel improvised, resulting in inconsistent tones and abrupt thematic setting.

This was a beautiful story. Why is it rated so low?
Most people are interested in superficial stories. They have trouble reconciling feelings of melancholy and emptiness. They rationalize these feelings as evidence of weakness in the author's writing, rather than actually engaging with these feelings and reconciling with the themes the author is conveying. For instance, they'll interpret them not getting together at the end as the author hesitating to engage deeply with romance, when ironically the author is exploring romance more deeply than any idealistic fictional romance fantasy, because real romance is messy (and this story reflects that).

In other words, they wanted a rose-tinted superficial ending where the comedian girl fixes the other girl and they live happily ever after, but got something thoughtful instead.
