The "special technique" sounds kind of like disassociation. You focus on something really intensely until you're just watching without really processing. That's the easiest way to start disassociating at least.

I was thinking - this art style and realism really remind me of something. I click on the author's name "Butter!!" OH! That's what it is!

Also, read Butter!! It's really good.

@Serenata "Dried sushi" means the sushi served at the funeral hall in that scene. Japanese funeral homes serve some food. Sushi is almost always there, but those sushi are not so fresh. That's why Makio and Asa went to a sushi restaurant for better sushi on that day.

Somehow I completely missed that the girl might not be blood-related to the mom and aunt on my first read-through. What's up with that?
Love this chapter so much

Though the faces seem too ambiguous for my taste, the overall aesthetic of the art is wonderful, and the writing is friggin smart and touching. The author seems to know how to come from dozens of angles and touch the reader in surprising ways.

I found this from a recent AniNews announcement about a live action adaptation. I wish it was adapted for anime instead.
