Fine chapter but I feel like this one reads differently than it did in the LN, with some of the changes--especially around the marriage discussion. Now we're getting into things at least. They don't do breaks after the ends of volumes for this series right? I forgot.

Sometimes they do. There was a 1 month break before vol 8 release.

Telling the person who clearly loves you and has said as much many times... that they should marry someone else... OOF.
Claire is still very much stuck in the traditionalist mindset where marriage is primarily about politics. Rae is probably smart enough and enough of an otaku to have expected something like this to happen sooner or later (just not with the crown prince I'm sure), but yeah it's still gonna hurt.

Agree, but that is more of a western cultural view. "Think of your parents" is not exactly a hot take for Japanese manga.
Especially for the period they are in and considering Claire's pride in the aristocratic way of thinking. The idea of love and marriage not necessarily being the same thing would be prevalent during the time this world is alluding to. Her thoughts here don't betray her feelings for Rae as much as they reinforce how stuck in her thinking she remains. More room to grow but that makes sense given where she started.

omg on the novel this bit from Prince Roy was so cringe bit here felt so much better.... I need to know who is picking the novel and improving like this holy moly... is it the editor? Godammit all the time its improving on the source material
Usually it's a combination of editor, mangaka, and original author working together and each providing input on how best to do the adaptation.

I do love Rae leaning into that toxic yuri angle with Claire's dependence issues.
It's touched on a bit more in LN extras and less so in the story itself so it's got me curious if they plan on continuing after the original ending or if they'll resolve that plot point during the revolution. Because in the LN extras, Rae confesses a part of her wanted to be that dependence pillar but she knew that would break Claire into someone she didn't love. Claire eventually finds her own independence picking up teaching along with raising their kids. So mayyyyyyyyyyyybe we can get more yes yes yes?

P.S.

FUCK Salas.

the arguments here are extended from the novel with Rae being a much worse person (which is acceptable) and Lily having some input. i get that Lily is the favorite character, but we know that Clarice is the Pope and Lily's entire Arc doesnt make sense in any universe with Clarice. Clarice already knows the only way she can ever get Claire is by running a body double operation after Rae completes the story and theres a perfectly abuseable lesbian nun as her direct report.
