In response to everyone who still says Kiba is simple-minded and annoying: I agree. He's still simple minded because he still doesn't see that his attempts to divert conversations may usually only cause irritation. Heck, that's why everyone breaks up with him in the first place. Although I may counter with the fact that being irritated at him instead of whatever other problem they had is still essentially fulfilling Kiba's goal in the first place, I do agree that he is still missing the mark a bit in his perception of himself. In the big picture perspective, he really is just a simple-minded annoying guy.
But isn't that more "realistic" anyways? He's completely misunderstanding how others view him. Doesn't everybody do that, at least a bit? He has incredibly good intentions while doing it though, so really, like Hirakawa, I pity him. I realize this is reading in between lines that barely even exist, but imagine: this whole perception of self problem could be a FANTASTIC catalyst for a character arc. This entire chapter would be a red herring making you feel like everything was just fine and dandy, and then later down the road Kiba meets one of his old girlfriends and she just says it like it is. Kiba's self-confidence is destroyed, and then the tables are turned with Hirakawa suddenly having to cheer HIM up.
I hope, but highly doubt that will actually happen. Still, I completely disagree with those who say that Kiba is "unrealistic". With what we've seen so far, he might be the most realistic character of the lot.
Just my two cents.
