People in the comments trying to analyse why they changed her skin color while I'm like 'lol, the artist got lazy and wanted to save ink'.

That's the exact same reason Goku's hair as a SSJ are blonde.

First she was white in the first place
Second the story was made for people in japan in the first place and only people who are marketing to America would market it based on the character's appearance.
beside this is a isekai into the vileness of a story and try to survive the story that what the marketing
Third the character skin color is only dark as a visual plot device like in other stories when other charters are treated similarly for having black hair and eye a common Charterristic for people in Japan
and what's tone deaf is everyone getting made for the MC skin turning to it's original color when it's been explain from the very beginning why her skin was dark in the first place

I don't see the problem here, she was originally white from a white family, her skin turned black because of the dark spirit's blessing.

What? the people complaining because the Mc skin was made lighter because of magic even though her skin was originally light toned or because the Mc skin was made lighter because of magic even though her skin was originally light toned
if you chose option 2 You'd miss the point

This is alright, stick to the script. Much later she is the mother of twin girls one with dark skin gold eyes and blond hair and one with white skin black eyes and black hair while the blessings are fire and water respectively. Much later she has twin boys one with dark skin gold eyes and black hair and one with white skin gold eyes and blond hair while the blessings are earth and wind respectively. Now the big guess is that having two blessings means you get twins a lot. Her third set of twins is a boy and a girl, the boy has dark skin black eyes and black hair and the girl has white skin gold eyes and blond hair while the blessings are are of course darkness and light respectively. Now I wonder how many people with read this.

This doesn't make the author racist for turning her white.
1. Because it's Japanese and the rest of the world doesn't have a history of slavery like America so American values don't apply here. To us the difference in skin color is the same as the difference in fur color in dogs.

2. The author is making it a point to show that she was different before and people condemned her, now she's white and everybody is treating her good. The author isn't making this seem like a good thing. In fact, they are showing that regardless of color she has always been a good person. Its just the rest of the country that's kinda racist. But I don't think they're considering skin color specifically cause the dark spirit is the bigger deal here.

@Willie29 Her "first" form is irrelevant because that's before she was isekai'd into the main story. I know there are in story reasons behind her skin color. I get it. I can read. That doesn't make the issue that it was a weird choice to design the story that way any less weird. That also doesn't really change the backlash the manga got in Japan for this, in line with my expectations. The fact that the publisher of the manga or the author chose to retcon her appearance change back to dark skin tells a story about how upset the Japanese market apparently was about the change as well. It's got nothing to do with foreign markets. It's easier for the written story to get away with the change because people didn't get attached to her appearance in the same way I guess. Was apparently harder for the manga to get away with it to the point they literally had to change it back, kind of weirding out the story a bit.

Anyway, I'm done talking about it. I just like my darker skinned anime girls. Got nothing to do with race, got nothing to do with story. It's pretty niche in Japan, I'm sure a lot of them were into it too if the publisher was forced to retcon it.

Y'all act like it's crazy for people to be upset at the author literally changing the mcs skin color to white. Educate yourself on whitewashing.
