@naeon Like I said, I don't agree with it but it is still leagues better than the other reasoning.
Where he apparently wants to use daughter as a tool of war for convenience.

You know, "good reasons bad actions" (good reasons. Not right reasons. In case you misunderstand and nitpick) instead of "selfish reasons bad actions."

As for the mother.
Lighter than its supposed to be? Im sorry. I think we are having two different definitions of light and dark. MC agrees to small talk but stated that she WILL NOT forgive the mother. That is plenty dark enough considering the fact that the MC is generally "understanding" (she knows people fear her so it "can't be helped" and generally locked away most of her feelings) and is lonely if the past few chapters didn't clue you about that fact already. She is already on the verge of lashing out (stopping because her mother knows what to say, keeping Claudia more in her 'comfort zone'. as opposed to her father who didn't and continued to step all over her fragile heart.) Also it wasn't even a full reconciliation.

The only "darker" i can think of is to explode in abusive rage or go full murderer but that isn't her character. She didn't even "explode" on her father after all and thats when she exploded. On the other hand, her mother "apologized" so its harder to explode on her.

All in all, it feels "right". About as right as the thought process of people with fantasy mindset at least. Whats your take on "as dark as its supposed to be." How would you envision things?

you know, about "I'm Not The Villainess" why not send the Duke who has the Spirit King of wind to war, if the kings are so powerful, why offer to send little girls to war first lol. Kinda makes him look like a bitch.

I do know what's coming though cause novel, but yea. To join the convo that's spoilery

I definitely agree with the point that the mother comes off selfish and shallow... I still don't like her. The father as well is pretty crap. Even if he doesn't hate her, he stil let's his fear and such treat her poorly and not like a proper dad. I do hope she never reconciles with them. I hope it is similar to the way "The Villainess Wants to Make Her Husband Slim Down" ends where her parents basically lose their daughter because she can't stand being with them for their actions in the past. I think that'd be best here, that Claudia, whenever she likely marries the prince and leaves, never contacts nor accepts meeting her parents later other than official unavoidable occasions, basically so they never get to have a proper relationship with their own daughter nor whatever children she might have

Sure she doesn't forgive her mother, but the writing made it that her mother was given a lttle hope. Whereas the father got scolded immediately.
As i said lighter than it is supposed to be, she's not heavily reprimanded for her action compared to everybody else. Remember that the MC was abused and neglected by her Mother, even her Dad was more willing to converse with her.

It is stated that the Dad's various "Meet her halfway" hurt her more than the mother's "pure ignore". its why the brother punched Dad. Also the punch was glorious.

@Nep thank you for the clarification!

That doesn't seem hypocritical, but rather broken, natural, and in deep need of healing. I agree with your sentiments. Perhaps, readers struggle with the painful, tragic realities of these sorts of times, cultures, and relationships? People can be quite flawed beings when placed up against our ideals. We make judgements quite often derived out of our cultures' teachings and out our own personal fears. For Claudia's mother to react as such is a common (albeit painful and painfully tragic) reaction. The question of hypocrisy in my mind would be if the mother never truly learns from the errors of her ways, and her "heel-faced-turn" is purely opportunistic, namely, because she changed in some way physically. If she realizes her errors before the change, then her actions wouldn't strictly be hypocritical. However, if she only changed after said change, then yes it would seem reasonable to claim her actions could have been hypocritical. The real test is whether or not Claudia's mother has actually changed or whether her actions are merely superficial. That, at this point, I do not know.

I think it comes down to context. The context might not be given with respect to Claudia's Mother, so her position might be unclear.

Ideally, if Claudia's Mom is to be depicted as highly flawed & fearful, she'd realize her brokenness and wrongness, and figure her crap out before the change. However, if she is viewed as emotionally less capable, not as strong ethically (or, at the very least, fearful), then her needing some drastic change to shatter her perceptions—show her just how wrong she was—the change—thereby demonstrating her flaw.

If we use Beauty & the Beast as an example, then it took the Enchantress transformation into a beautiful woman for him to recognize his errors. If we solely judged him based upon that singular instance, then we'd say that he was a terrible person, but for those who know the stories, the very young Prince/Beast recognizes how vile he behaved and by his 16th or 18th birthday has repented enough, become a better person (EQ wise) such that despite his "ghastly form", he could be loved for the beauty inside of himself that had taken root.

Using this example, it would take us knowing & seeing more as readers/the audience for us to know with any certainty whether she changes like Magnus in Chrono Trigger or refuses to change until their ultimate demise like his parents.

As for the other people, for one, change in childhood is easier than in adulthood, different people grow up with different lives & levels of indoctrination (as a servant, the butler would be viewed as less valuable culturally, and thus might have an easier time comprehending cultural differences or oppression. An example of this spoken by some feminist writers—patriarchy injures men & women alike. It harms women through the known oppressions, but it also harms men by forcing them into particular modes of thought and isolation. Because Claudia's mother is clearly not a strong person (we know nothing of her background), some factors have led her to fundamentally fear her daughter. The Queen can easily accept Claudia as a strategic weapon or power tool, whereas Claudia's Mom sees this as a curse. Likewise, as royalty and head of state, the Queen may also have access to suppressed information on the Dark Spirit—that he was a victim of the shortcomings of the people—that either might be suppressed (what is depicted) or it might be seen more evidently by her due to some aspect of herself. In either case, it's possible that she might be privy with things that Claudia's Mom might not be and likewise, Claudia not being her daughter may also put her in distinct advantage because she can gain the benefits from using Claudia without ever having to have her ill-fated omen loom over her family by birth or over her loins (guilt & self blame may play a role for a hypothetical character like Claudia's Mom, unlike the Queen).

Fookin maniac didn't learn from the past and is trying to repeat history again and of a much more retarded idea of sending off a child to war, does he really think that the dark spirit king would obey him and slaughter his enemies instead of the kingdom he serves, itself? the consequences are far greater than the outcome of his stupidity. I concur.

I really want to read Villainess Genre today even though it's annoying me to the point that my neck hurt and I can't move it still I still read it having some hope. BUT Fuck! She fucking has a fucking an Old Overpowered Spirit King and she's still weak? I mean avoiding flags with just one plan and she doesn't even have a plan b and that plan a is making friends the fuck? In the end, the only way you will survive this shit is by becoming powerful which she can do even when she's still a baby she can't even use her magic she relies on the spirit and she also didn't ask him to teach her how to use her magic even if she really can't the spirit king can teach here swordsmanship and train her body and many more because that dude is so old that he was the reason the kingdom was established. Sigh, I really wanna like the story but I can't help but rant.

@HorikitaManabuIsNotMadeOfIce well since she's protected by the Spirit King she can't use magic and Villainesses' role in the story is essentially a diplomat with a really strong bodyguard rather than a fighter with a really strong companion I think since she had to be educated in manners and all that noble stuff. I think there was one Villainess manga that had a princess fed up with nobles and just beat the crap out of all of them can't remember the name tho
