@Wilhelm_Stenvall
>Is ostracized by her peers for things outside of her control(color of skin, color of hair, spirit blessing)
>Discrimination against her is based on ignorance and confirmation biases regardless of her actions, personality, and demeanor towards others
Don't get me wrong, I think it's hilarious what happens because it was so unnecessary(we didn't need yet another confirmation on how shitty her family(bar one person) and the people in the Kingdom outside of her few friends are), but you'd have to be pretty dense or willfully ignorant not to understand why people would be complaining. I do think the complaining is a bit overboard myself, but hey its the MangaDex comment section and outrageous drama is what it's known for.
She has not even fought and is already thinking of after her death...
damn, talk about being pessimist....
@AynBlu
Considering her dark skin is a side-effect of her magic, it's not wrong to call it fixing, but I think it's a pity because she is damn cute the way she is now.
skin tone is because of the dark king protection of course if the light king gave their blessing they would have some effect
and for the people who will drop this series or feel like dropping this series because of it here
good, you are projecting your clear bias on what the intent is infact someone pointed out that even the female lead felt uncomfortable because of how people treated her because her skin tone changed it shows the hypocritical side of people, it is completely acceptble story device and make me think you're reading the story for all the wrong reasons.
that's all my thoughts on all these latest comments cause it clearly projection people are having there.
The moment her skin color changes the story shifts gears a bit.
Instead of being shunned, ostracized and feared due to her skin color, eye color, and hair color. The moment her skin color changes. People who do complete 180 are like “oh she’s so beautiful.” And such. The moment her dark skin changes to same color as the Light Spirit King’s this is how they react. And the Light Spirit King only meant to give her a blessing to using some healing magic as an apology, there wasn’t an intention to change her skin color and it was considered a side effect of the blessing just given to her.
The MC starts to get very uncomfortable about the change. Her mom says she isn’t as afraid anymore but after so many years she still can’t change her stance with MC. After attempting to somewhat compromise, MC is okay with this as if her mother did complete 180 MC would hate her mother even more. The MC’s dad is still the same indecisive person he is and continues to hurt MC’s feelings because he can’t even bring himself to completely love her or fear her.
One thing MC says is that she believes that all the people now praising her or trying to approach her are possibly with malicious intents. She can’t trust those people due to their change in attitudes.
Levy points out that she has been so used to her being “Claudia” a role where she being the shunned and feared girl who could bring about the destruction of the kingdom. That MC herself isn’t strong but is acting tough. Being so numb to it all when it is flipped around she has no idea how to feel. She can’t feel happy, she even gave up on marriage because of her appearance before. And that the whole time she kept going “it can’t be helped.” She was actually hurting all the time. And when all the stuff that hurts her go away, she feels lost due to that “role” going away.
In a lighter tone, she is always “who’s this” when she looks in a mirror. Her friends have to get used to her skin color being like that. And one of them comments how she became 20% more beautiful when she was already beautiful in the first place. Her friends show normal reactions to this development. And they still treat her the same that even if her skin color changed “Claudia is still Claudia”
The whole point of the story after the final confrontation with the “heroine” is Claudia having to deal with the aftermath of her skin color change. And dealing with the issues that come from the people (minus friends) around her changing their attitudes towards her almost completely. There’s also the romance but she has to deal with...
@Seink
While her dark skin is established as the result of the Dark Spirit King's blessing,
the whole "magic does whatever I want lol" for changing her skin and hair (and even eyes, I think? its been a while) from the Light Spirit King's blessing seemed like an easy out for the author to just ditch the narrative of her overcoming prejudice and fear, 'cause now she was "normal" looking.
Lazy writing and all that.
Lol I got called a SJW and such 'cause my opinions differ. What else should I have expected? 🤪
Sigh, I was hoping that people would be talking about that noble that resembles that mysterious boy that wasn't part of the original story, but people seem set on misinterpreting the story for shock value.
And the one who is to blame for magnifying and exaggerating things is the translator... what the hell? I am not even sure they intended it in any other way than to say they preferred tanned over untanned?
And some people here seem to have goldfish memory or just take in each panel superficially if they interpret things as "author be racist" -_-,
"Uncomfortable" uncomfortable about what? The way people suddenly start to try to get her favour
after the light spirit gives her his blessing
? Or the fact that the MC herself finds the changed attitude annoying and right out hypocritical? Something she would not feel if the message was "dark bad, white good"
There is also the fact that in the first bloody chapter it is established that it was the person blessed by the dark spirit king that got betrayed by people, not the other way around. By your logic shouldn't that be establishing, "Dark good, White bad"?
Ofc the story is more nuanced than that with people acting like people and deep rooted biases remaining deep rooted. Hence why I am baffled by some folks reaction.
So far what’s been translated LN wise I have some suspicions who he is. But I can guess he might go after Claudia because of having Dark Spirit King. That is if he is who I think he is.
I, personally, agree with the claim "The best milk is chocolate milk" . . . just, without subtext. I finished a beer mug full a few minutes ago.
As to skin colour, all shades can be cute.
@Zoh_Veldae The original source is 3~ years old and only really got translated after the manga happened it seems, I don't have exact dates due to manga dates just being year released where I am able to find them rather then month or day.
personally, I like darker skin tones in manga when its not attached to Ganguro/Gal character types. And I don't like taking away a defining character trait away.
I mean, if you think most of the people on a translation piracy site know how to speak the native language, im sorry but you profoundly misunderstand the demos here. God knows if I could read and write japanese I would never be touching a western site like these to talk about it.
