Did we really need an entire chapter devoted to telling us that he's a wretched person? We already knew that. We've seen enough hints that we don't need this entire chapter devoted to it and the horrible acts he's about to commit. Acts I'm sure you'll show the after effects in the next chapter...uhg.

I'm quite sure that all these sisters, especially Jinny, aren't just being introduced to show how despicable Father Ram is. This whole arc isn't about Father Vincent gaining power to burn the entire Church down with everyone in it: it's about revealing the truth of their false god and their corrupt leaders. These sisters are probably going to end up joining Vincent's faction—likely after he saves them somehow. And it's not like they came out of nowhere: we've learned about how Mother Letna, Sister Vanessa, and Father Ram had been their caretakers, so it makes enough sense for them to receive proper introductions now.

A chapter dedicated to introducing characters we've heard about for a while and who will likely be significant going forward sounds totally appropriate. I'm not sure why you're assuming they are only here to have horrible things happen to them.

It's not shown in the raws that have been released so far, dw, I can't remember anything like that being mentioned in the novel either. He, along with everyone else in the church that're fucked up get purged though so at least there's that. After this is a spoiler about the saintess.
Btw to whoever said the saintess that's gave chestburster birth to that edgelord scythe dude lives, you were right, her body dies but she also unbirthes a new body for herself, very gruesomely.

Are the chapters getting for unhinged?
They are beating around the bush a lot
MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD, don't read it if you don't want essentially the entire story spoiled.
Yeah, it's getting more unhinged as things progress farther into the story as our dear MC is slowly awakening. He is actually a fairly young Outer God but is ridiculously powerful, Inky is just a part of him that he split off to help the him that doesn't remember this yet.
His real body is underneath the city in the ruins, he was born cuz his mother, father and their expedition team (they were archaelogists) found some ruins (on Earth) which were actually the ruins in this world (some weird cross dimensional bs) and they got trapped there, went insane, started eating each other and drinking blood without even realising it, they all thought there were monsters picking them off in the dark, anyway eventually MC's mom and dad are all that're alive and it turns out his mom is pregnant with him but after he's born and his mom dies in childbirth his dad manages to escape with him to Earth again (but of course due to all the insanity inducing energy, the blood and flesh that was eaten and all Lin Jie was born an Outer God.)
None of this is told to Lin Jie of course so he lives a relatively normal life as a Human up until he decides to try the ritual to get access to all books in existence which brings him to the same world his true body is in (this world) and he sets up the bookstore and starts building political power without even being aware of it. (He was the one who made the ritual work btw.)
The reason why all of this is happening is cuz he wants to have a real personality which can withstand his omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence without going numb so he has to start as a regular entity like a standard human and then build power over time to inch closer to his real power bit by bit.

Oh btw about the recently shown major antagonist group, the Flaming Sword or some shi were created bcuz someone found a bible that one of the archaelogists in Lin Jie's parent's group dropped.
EDIT: After they translated it they began to think that Heaven, the place of eternal bliss and where the divine live is the Dream Realm so their entire thing is trying to enter it and apotheosize beyond god rank to be real gods. (I mean they're technically right about needing to be able to exist there to become gods in this world but they're skipping whole steps (the ether cultivation and control method Silver taught to Lin Jie is one of said prerequisites as it lets you carve out your own safe, personal domain in the dream realm.)) EDIT 2: Btw this hadn't been confirmed at the point in the novel I got to but IMO the Dream Realm is literally Lin Jie's dream for the part of him that's asleep.
