You can use it like a spear for the most part. That's just how polearms are. And it's not like you also can't swing a spear.

However, an axe shorter than a polearm is very different in usage.

He was introduced to all the leaders in town, so he could explain how it is that he even exists, and show his contract with a Spirit Beast. That's why he knows this famous dwarven smith.
