This wasn't an axe. This was the author literally not knowing how to end it. He even says as much in the notes in volume 7.

He just gave up.
When I read his sketch ideas for the manga and what was shot down I was completely baffled by his thought process

Will you also be tackling Immortal Ridge? It doesn't have many chapters left but seems to be stuck in TL limbo for years.

Yeah... how can you satisfyingly end a fight against an omnipotent being? Giant robot fight just does not seem doable in this story.

This is really weird. I could have sworn I read an entirely different ending to this manga where all the characters had been locked up in a cold storage prison and released by Kenzaki.

That wasn't the ending, that was in Volume 6 (where the old pre-dmca translations had stopped iirc)

Would have worked better if windchime seemed 25 instead of 14 or the Inspector at least seemed 22 instead of 40. Or just actually make him sexy and not a flavorless cutout of a man. Nanami from JJK comes to mind as a model.
