Wouldn't translating/localizing degozaru make her sound like a ye olde timey knight or something, at best? It's supposed to show that she's speaking in an old fashioned way and all. I'd personally find her going full renaissance fair on us way more annoying than a degozaru.

Just a small info bit, a knight or other servant of a ruler or lord would never take a knee to a ruler or lord from a different nation or someone they feel is of a lesser position. Kneeling is an act of submission. Doing so to another lord is disgracing the lord you rule, acting as the lord in front of you is of a higher authority.

At most they would have bowed or some other respectful gesture to the king of another nation in the beginning scene.

If you're not going to translate the meaning of "degozaru" and you won't put what Yae means each time she ends every sentence with it, why are you putting it in?! Just leave it out.

> most important point: It's her speech quirk, translate it to plain English remove that aspect. I already sacrifice her feudal style way of speak (she's the only one in the group who speak this way) by translating her sentence into normal English. Her vocabulary is coming from feudal Japanese. Might go with old/middle English but I don't have skill for that.
> It means "is/are/am/be/was/were", it has the same level of meaning as "desu/da", "degozaru" is just the ancient form of "desu" and again translate it to plain English diminishes this uniqueness, as it just collapses to "is/are/am/be/was/were".

I think yae's degozaru is really important because it's how she ends her sentence, you wouldn't need to add it in anime translation but it's necessary in manga and novel, it act as a way to differentiate between characters

I'm rereading just because and I realize that, apart from healing or being able to make pacts with animals, the photograph skill is what I'd probably really want if I was isekaid into a magical world with less modern tech.
I could capture images unheard of, beastmen, dwarves, magic. And I could give copies to the people and they'd become heirlooms.. Or if I got desperate maybe portraits for suitors, for advertisements, that kind of stuff. That's so cool.
