Take it he says their strangers since noone remembers him from the last life ?
And unfortunately, the author decided to not give us any idea how the personality of the girl in the first life was :/ Bad writing on his part.

Also letting zombies loose in the school is a normal thing ? Can they really not find better ways to deal with dwindling resources ?

Yep releasing zombies as a means of population control is stupid. The purpose of the school is to train students to protect the reaming survivors and themselves. But if they are killing the student body that means there are fewer protectors. "only the strong survive" doesn't apply because this is a school that supposed to make them strong. And it seems even the researchers are vulnerable, that's dumb.
I see this a lot. Authors trying to be dark and show how tough a school or place is. But it only works if the reader doesn't think about it for more time than it takes to read the words.
