That was referring to the wife of the marquess, so the replacement should be marchioness. But Wikipedia says marquise is also fine.

It's also likely depeending on HOW the transportation happened! FMC said it happened EAERLY because of her so the Royal's likely PANIC! It's more then likely she was transported "by the Royal Guard" and since the "Bandits" are obviously Knights (as FMC pointed out) then she found herself outnumbered and backstabbed! If not by the Royal Knights then her guard might have been smaller, and knowing where she was going and how many men she had! The ambush was likely to their advantage!

Again FMC ruined that because they panicked when the "exile" was being transported by a "Foreign Royal" so they "took the risk" of trying to eliminate her, despite the fact they'd have to kill FMC as well! Causing an INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT though they likely figuree they'll stick to the "Bandit's" story! Still makes them INCOMPETENT, but it at least means their hands are "clean" since it would be UNKNOWN that the Bandits were "Royal Knights" (Remember, the saintess makes you "dumb!" Hence why they thought this was a GOOD idea! Alongside sending an army at the Dukedom using FMC as an EXCUSE to claim TREASON on them! Which agin, might have WORKED if FMC didn't warn them and give aid! These plans work in that they "come within the Territory as ALLIES and once in, they start attacking before anyone realizes they let the Enemy in, cause one does NOT expect such tactics by THEIR OWN SIDE without good reasoning! Hence why it's effective if you were already going to make an enemy out of them! Though the WARNING ruins that as now they KNOW their "allies" are "enemies" and can properly prepare ahead of time instead of with their pants down!)
