My ex-boss. He used to pickup talents from jails, bailing them out and set them up for a job. Seemingly out of kindness and appreciation for their capabilities. What he's really doing is lending out favors. They worked overtime and do things outside of their desk job all with a smile on their face. "To repay what he has done for me". One is still working for him to this day.

He fixed the broken, shaped them up and took a portion of them with him.

It's slavery with consent. They can't leave him before he lets them or somehow paid their unpayable debt. It's called Hutang Budi in Indonesian. Can't quite nail it's meaning in English. The only debt that stays beyond your grave.

Yeah, after rereading it after I posted my comment, I came to the conclusion it was more like slavery. Though I've never heard of "Hutang Budi" because I cannot read or see Indonesian content that much tbh. Rip though but it sounds sweet in english but yknow, it's fine afterall since it doesn't seem like you couldn't phrase it much better than slavery with consent.
