"Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is basically the equivalent of The Illiad and The Odyssey, minus the divine intervention.

It was written by a descendant of the Shu Dynasty, so the account heavily favors Liu Bei's faction, and tries to demonize others.

There's a very good live-action adaptation that tries to portray CaoCao (T'sao T'sao?) more neutrally and is subbed in English.
