I was literally thinking the exact same thing. Having recently watched a video on the history of Fourier transforms and how they work that kind of thinking was fresh in my mind and, like you mentioned, they are both based on sound/waves.In my mind the one string concept is Fourier synthesis, seems to make sense from how they've been portraying magic
